Copper Gazebo
This commission provided an opportunity to work with another Atlanta blacksmith, Corrina Mensoff. Together we created a copper clamshell roof that was supporte by hand-forged steel lemon trees, accented with brass lemons.
Pupula Arboretum, 2005
Mild steel, stainless steel, DVD player, motion sensors, b&w monitors
8’ tall x 9’ wide x 3’ deep
This contemporary interactive sculptural installation, which was a collaboration that merged Joe Martin’s high-tech background with my traditional blacksmithing techniques, was created for the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art’s 2005 exhibition “Activating Spaces: Sculpture as Environment”.
The forest of hand-forged steel plants are fused with technology; the heads of the pants are moving monitors with video images of human eyes. The eyes randomly scan the environment, and when the hidden motion sensors detect movement, the eyes lock on the visitor.
